puberty
For my children's literature class, I wrote a paper the past two weeks on puberty in children's literature. It really made me quite upset. Even in this day and age, there are essentially no fiction books available for pre-teens and teens that dare to tackle puberty. Puberty for many is a horribly confusing time for many and kids need someone to relate to. Who better (and more non-judgmental) than a character in a book? Especially what girl can't remember reading Are You There God, It's Me Margaret and Then Again, Maybe I Won't? Or better yet, Forever. The few puberty books that there are, you really have to dig and search creatively to find. Is a kid really going to ask for help to find a book on getting your period or having a boner? Seriously, it almost amounts to censorship...
